2014 TENTATIVE RACING SCHEDULE:
TBD

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run 6-days a week and maintain a decent base level of fitness. Upwards of 50-60 per week would be great. Adjust to my new work position, use time wisely, and keep negative stress at bay. Hopefully make a good run at Ogden this spring.

Balance family, work, running, and the other important things in my life.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy running and continue doing it consistently. Stay healthy and avoid injury as much as possible. Have fun!

Continue chasing PRs while I still can, particularly in the marathon and half marathon. Explore new races, improve training, build friendships, and learn from the wisdom and experience of the numerous great runners here in Utah. Run well into my old age.

Personal:

I live in Sandy, UT with my wife (Lindsay) and 2 kids. I love running the roads through my neighborhood and near Little Cottonwood Canyon. I also do a fair amount of treadmill running at the Life Centre Athletic Club. Aside from running, I love road and moutain cycling.

A.M. - Little Cottonwood ride to the end of the paved road (~25 mi.).

The higher than average biking has been fun, but I sure miss running. Very little change/improvement on the injury-front. My sciatic nerve is still peeved with me. Ready to just be feeling better and resume running again.

sorry to hear about the lingering injury. Do you think the biking is adding to the problem or delaying the recovering? At least your bike is getting some good use. Are you planning a ride for tomorrow? I was thinking of doing one of the canyons.

Honestly, as hard as it is for me to admit it, I think the biking is prolonging the process. I'm no doctor, but if I had to guess, the biking may have been the root of the problem in the first place. I think it has caused the glutes, my IT bands, and my back to become tight and that's what is causing the nerve issue and pain. Could also be a result of my frequent rides up the canyons. In general, the climbing does work the back and butt more than flatter rides. Again, I'm just spectulating. So why am I biking everyday this week?... I don't know.. I guess its just the excessive compulsiveness in me. I imagine most folks on the blog can relate to a certain extent. In the absence of running, cycling (in my mind) is the best way for me to preserve a level of fitness and obviously its the best thing to do to get me ready for the cycling events coming up (i.e. Ultimate Challenge & LoToJa). It feels great while I'm doing it, but the back is probably most stiff/tender immediately after a ride. My condition certainly isn't getting worse. I'm pretty sure its getting better, but just slowly (probably because of the additional stretching and treatments I've been doing). I got professionally fitted to the bike when I got it 3 years ago and its always felt like its fit great, but maybe its time to get it done again. Sorry for the rambling.

Fritz, I'd love to go riding. Let me check with the wife and see how work goes today (there's a chance I'll need to come in tomorrow). Mind if we touch base this afternoon?
