2014 TENTATIVE RACING SCHEDULE:
TBD

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run 6-days a week and maintain a decent base level of fitness. Upwards of 50-60 per week would be great. Adjust to my new work position, use time wisely, and keep negative stress at bay. Hopefully make a good run at Ogden this spring.

Balance family, work, running, and the other important things in my life.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy running and continue doing it consistently. Stay healthy and avoid injury as much as possible. Have fun!

Continue chasing PRs while I still can, particularly in the marathon and half marathon. Explore new races, improve training, build friendships, and learn from the wisdom and experience of the numerous great runners here in Utah. Run well into my old age.

Personal:

I live in Sandy, UT with my wife (Lindsay) and 2 kids. I love running the roads through my neighborhood and near Little Cottonwood Canyon. I also do a fair amount of treadmill running at the Life Centre Athletic Club. Aside from running, I love road and moutain cycling.

Drove home from St. George. No physical exercise to speak of except hauling my kids and luggage to and from the car. Legs are trashed.

A.M. - Slept in the morning. No workout. This is one of the only times of the year I feel justified doing this. Legs feel better than yesterday, but still shot. Stairs aren't quite the enemy that they were yesterday.

P.M. - After dinner I walked a couple miles around my neighborhood.

A.M. - Messed around for 30 minutes on the eliptical at the gym. Legs are feeling much better. May try and run a little bit tomorrow.

A.M. - Was able to run a little bit. 45 minutes on the treadmill, easy:

20 minutes @ 8.0 mph, flat
25 mins @ 8.5, flat

Legs felt heavy, especially at the beginning, but are coming around. Felt good just to run.

A.M. - 7 relatively easy miles on the Life Centre treadmill. 45 mins, all flat:

10 minutes @ 8.5 mph
10 mins @ 9.0 mph
10 mins @ 9.5 mph
15 mins @ 10.0 mph

I've been digging the mellow runs that last few days. Nice to just move.

Fritz and I are going for a ride tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to hit, but I hope he's nice and takes it a little easy on me..Always good to spend time with people who radiate greatness like he does. If anyone has a bike and is interested in joining, reach out to one of us for info.

AM(1) - Little Cottonwood park-n-ride 9 mile out and back. Beautiful, overcast, clean air morning. Wet roads, but not raining. Nice and easy pace.

AM(2) - Road cycling with Fritz. We met at the Olympus Hills Shopping Center and first rode up Millcreek Canyon. The colors in the canyon are incredible right now! Once out of the canyon, we rode south on Wasatch to 4500 S., then down to 2300 E., through Holladay, and up through Old Mill back to Wasatch and back north. Great ride. And yes, Fritz is an animal on the bike just like when he's running!

There's a cool article in the November Runner's World by Amby Burfoot and his life of running. He gives some good perspective on things. One of things he said that I really liked was, "Life requires us to make adjustments, to change course. Some years, when the waters of your life are calm and you fell a sense of control at the helm, you'll race hard, and hope for personal bests. Other years, beset by a perfect storm of turbulence, you'll have to settle for less. That's okay. less is still something; just don't surrender and abandon ship."
